They also stressed the importance of explicitly naming the Tongva people in conversations about Los Angeles history, adding that the tribe collaborated with the Recording Academy on official shared land recognition during Grammy week.

Despite the growing criticism, Eilish has also received public support within her family. Her uncle, former U.S. Congressman Brian Baird, vigorously defended her and criticized the Daily Mail for suggesting she might be considered a hypocrite if she didn’t abandon her Los Angeles home.

“Oh, please give me a break! It’s disingenuous,” Baird said, pushing back on the narrative.

The former Democratic representative for Washington’s Third Congressional District insisted that his niece’s activism should not be dismissed so easily, noting that their family has long been involved in supporting immigrant communities.

“As Billie explained, our family has done a lot for immigrants and their cause,” he said.
