WARNING: spoilers for The Pitt season 2 episode 7 coming soon.
I knew it was only a matter of time before Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) and Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi’s (Sepideh Moafi) tentative rivalry spilled over into the rest of the ER. Although The Pitt season 2 softened the bond between them, the decision to rush into procedural changes backfired.
Not only is it slightly disappointing because it was set up so obviously — the hit HBO Max show is historically good at blindsideing us — but because the final moments of the episode took away the impact of an entire earlier scene that was easily the most delicate, emotional, and vulnerable ever. Pitt’s Season 2 Episode 7 Cyberattack Fear Distracted Focus From Dana’s Sexual Assault Patient
Last week, episode 6 highlighted the humanity and eternal empathy of nurses, with the team led by dream woman Dana (Katherine LaNasa). This week, she is responsible for the well-being of a sexual assault victim, guiding her through the process from the moment the patient walks through the door.
It’s rare that we get to see something that is rarely talked about be described so accurately on a public scale. The girl in question is terrified and tries to put on a brave face and whistle through the process as fast as she can. Dana is exactly the comforting face you want in this scenario, keeping her voice calm while talking through every move she makes.
Even when the girl suddenly panics, claiming she doesn’t want to use the assault kit because the suspect is “just a friend,” Dana remains unfazed. For those of us watching who have never been in this situation but constantly have the fear of it in the back of our minds, it has been a valuable education.
Instead of sitting in the moment, The Pitt immediately introduced the threat of a cyberattack, undoing any emotional introspection the previous scene had allowed to build up. This is something that could have easily been left until episode 8, but it’s clearly too tempting to create a soap opera-style cliffhanger.
I hope Dana, her team and her patients get as much air time in The Pitt season 2, episode 8 – not just to enjoy their work, but generally to be the best people in this godforsaken hell. Let’s hope the series doesn’t cause a sensation instead on something else…
