31 Small Ways to Refresh Your Life in March

Camille Styles' March To-Do List

Growing up in New England, March had a reputation: mud season. The snow was melting into slush, the ground was softening, and everything seemed suspended between what was and what was going to happen. The weather wasn’t nice yet and it certainly wasn’t hot. It was simply an in-between.

And yet, this in-between holds its own kind of magic. There is a special type of hustle and bustle that happens this time of year. The light lasts longer in the evening. You almost instinctively opt for lighter layers. You open a window, even if just for a few minutes, just to feel the change in the air. Something in you wants to move forward, even if the outside world is not yet completely fulfilled.

Mars does not require reinvention. He suggests a return to school. A chance to free up some space, set some intentions and gently expand towards what’s next.

With that in mind, your March to-do list isn’t about doing more. It’s about being a part of the season as it unfolds. A walk, a dinner with friends and a little ritual that you perpetuate.

31 days, 31 starts. Let’s move into spring – slowly, intentionally and just in time.

The Ultimate March Bucket List: 31 Things to Do This Month

From simple daily rituals to exciting new adventures, consider this your go-to guide to celebrating the transition of March. Choose a few ideas or challenge yourself to make them all. Either way, you’ll enter spring feeling refreshed, inspired, and ready for what’s ahead.

Clear Static Electricity

Before anything blooms, there is a clearing. March invites you to tune out the noise (physical, digital, emotional) and create a little more respite. You don’t need a complete overhaul. A small change is enough to signal something new.

1. Edit a drawer. Choose the one that irritates you and eliminate it completely, without thinking too much.

2. Clean out your pantry and cook something with what’s left. Let constraint spark creativity and build a simple meal from what you already have. Here is how to organize your pantry like a boss.

3. Delete five apps that no longer serve you. Notice how even a little digital silence can extend your evenings.

4. Refresh your nightstand. Keep only what you are really looking for (book, newspaper, water) and delete the rest.

5. Wash your windows and let in more light. It’s a small task that can dramatically change the feel of your entire home.

Lighten up

As the days get longer, your routines may also become more flexible. Mars is an invitation to release your grip on heaviness (layers, habits, expectations) and experience lightness. Not dramatically, but just enough to feel the change.

6. Replace heavy layers with a lighter silhouette. Even a simple outfit change can subtly signal that the season is turning.

7. Try a stripped-down makeup routine for a week. Let your skin breathe and notice how you feel by simplifying. Consider this routine your skincare capsule wardrobe.

8. Rearrange a corner of your house. Move a chair, clear a surface, or remove something that seems visually heavy.

9. Turn off overhead lighting one evening. Instead, use lamps or candles and let the softer light slow you down.

10. Open your windows daily, even for 10 minutes. Fresh air has the power to reset more than just a room.

Plant something (literally or otherwise)

Growth is rarely announced. It starts quietly, often beneath the surface. March is a good time to think about what you would like to maintain in the coming months.

11. Start an indoor herb garden. A small pot of basil or mint on the windowsill is enough to get started.

12. Buy yourself some fresh flowers. Simply arranged grocery rods can change the mood of an entire room. Here’s how to get the most out of your Trader Joe’s Bouquets.

13. Choose a seasonal ingredient. Choose asparagus, strawberriesor artichokes and build a meal around it.

14. Determine what you want your outdoor space to look like. Think less about perfection and more about atmosphere. Get inspired by these simple garden landscaping ideas.

15. Write down what you want to grow this season. Keep it simple: three intentions are enough. (Take a tip from Camille’s journey to turn his brown thumb green.)

Move towards the light

There is often a quiet restlessness in March, a desire to stretch and get outside again. Let the movement feel expansive and follow what feels energizing.

16. Take a long walk without headphones. Let the sounds of your neighborhood set the tone. This is how to turn enter into a form of therapy.

17. Ride your bike somewhere instead of driving. Even a short trip can make the ordinary feel new.

18. Choose a movement that feels like a game. Dance in your kitchen or try something new (without following it).

19. Stretch before bed for a week. Five slow minutes is enough to free up the day.

20. Spend a full afternoon outdoors. Even though it’s still cold, let the light recalibrate you.

Gather and connect

With more light in the evening, connection seems easier. You might notice yourself reaching out, making plans, or lingering after a meal. Trust this instinct.

21. Host a simple dinner. Soup, salad and bread are more than enough.

22. Plan a coffee on the terrace or a drink on the roof. This time of year, everything that happens outside seems festive.

23. Write and send a handwritten letter. Just say what you meant.

24. Visit your local farmers market. Even if you come away with just one ingredient, let it inspire the dinner.

25. Support a local business you love. A small purchase can feel like you’re part of something bigger.

Start again

Mars doesn’t require reinvention, but it does provide momentum. It’s the month to take a small step towards what’s next. Let it be simple enough that you can continue.

26. Book a summer trip or plan a staycation. Put something on the calendar to look forward to.

27. Check your passport and travel documents. Remove small obstacles before they become bigger. (Trust me, from someone who’s been there.)

28. Start a new hobby. Choose something tactile: ceramics, gardening, cooking, painting… Here is how to find a hobby you will love it.

29. Revisit your vision board. Adjust gently without judgment.

30. Create a small daily ritual to continue through April. Let it be simple and reproducible. Not feeling inspired? You’re sure you’re connected to something about this list of daily habits.

31. Make a wish for the upcoming season. Keep it close to you and let it guide your next steps.

A gentle start

Let this be the month you find yourself back where you are, somewhere between winter and whatever comes next. Clear some space, go out and start something small. The rest will come in time.
