The Best Calming Bedroom Colors
Painting trends 2026 all this aims to create a relaxing atmosphere at home. This is especially important in the bedroom, and color is a main ingredient for a calm and comfortable space. “When I design a bedroom, I first think about how the space should feel when you exhale at the end of the day,” Kimberly Oxford of Kimberly Oxford Interiors actions. “A calming palette is essential, but true tranquility comes from layering colors, materials and light in a way that gently calms the nervous system.”
Bedrooms are meant for deep relaxation, and when your space is designed with intention, you can count on a good night’s sleep. Ahead, I spoke with designers to get their opinions on the best bedroom colors for sleeping. Here are some trendy paint colors they recommend.

Soft blues
Research shows that spending time near a body of water can improve your mood, reduce stress and improve well-being. The color blue is incredibly calming, so a blue bedroom is a natural choice. “I always favor soft blue tones for bedrooms, as these colors are linked to relaxation and reducing stress levels,” Daniele Doerge, color expert from Californian paintingssharing. “A slightly muted powder blue creates a calm, soothing atmosphere, perfect for sleep-focused spaces.”
Soft blues can also mean darker shades. “Think of the evening sky, not the navy. Softened blues can gently reduce heart rate when desaturated,” designer, psychotherapist and founder of Psychologyshares Dr. Rachel Melvald. With a background in both design and psychology, Dr. Melvald recommends thinking of your bedroom as a space that envelops you. “In 2026, the trend is not daring statement walls are more about cocooning, biologically calming tones that help the body transition into rest and connection,” she says.

Light pinks, yellows and oranges
Think of the California desert on a late August evening. It is a terracotta tapestry that embraces the golden sunset. These calming colors bring just that to the bedroom. “One color I return to again and again is Benjamin Moore CC-310 Dusty Road. It’s one of those rare shades that instantly transforms a room,” says Oxford. “Gently toned down with a warm undertone, it flatters all skin tones and creates an atmosphere that is both moody and bright. »
When it comes to painting your bedroom, don’t be afraid to wrap the entire room in color, especially when it’s in this warm color palette. “I often recommend painting the fifth wall, the ceiling, the same color as the walls. This creates a cocooning effect that visually calms the room and removes harsh transitions, allowing the eye and mind to fully relax,” recommends Oxford.

Earthy Greens
You know that calm feeling when you walk on fresh grass? This is what this color does in our homes. Green speaks of peace, nature and harmony. “Unobtrusive, nature-rooted greens are very calming because they subconsciously connect us to the outdoors,” says Doerge. “Green is also associated with balance and restoration, making it an ideal color for a bedroom, a space in which most of us want to relax and unwind.”
Don’t know which shade to choose? You can’t go wrong with a muted sage, soft olive, or even a dark hunter green. “Natural green hues signal safety to the brain and reduce cognitive load,” says Dr. Melvald. “Green shades are treated as ‘no threat’ in the nervous system.”

Mushroom and mole
Neutral tones will truly never go out of style, but be on the lookout for warm taupes and mushroom tones this year, especially in the bedroom. “These tones are on-trend because they offer depth to a space without seeming too stimulating,” reflects Doerge. “Unlike cooler tones like gray, these shades create a soft, warm environment, which can help create a feeling of comfort and relaxation at the end of the day.”
“We are drawn to mushroom shades for several reasons,” says Dr. Melvald. “The variety of this shade’s palette provides safety, containment, and less visual stress. It’s regulating, so not only does it work well with other colors, it’s also very calming to our visual nervous system.”
