When Grogu (first known as The Child, then referred to as Baby Yoda online by fans) appeared in the first season of Star Wars: The Mandalorianit instantly became a fan favorite. Years later, before his first appearance on the big screen, fans will be able to purchase a perfect, interactive electronic recreation of Grogu to have in their home. And it only costs… what the hell? This thing costs $600?!?
Earlier today, Disney announced Ultimate Grogu, a new interactive Baby Yoda that arrives just in time to serve as both marketing for the upcoming Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu film, and to celebrate the next Star Wars Day, aka May 4th. This little green baby is really talented, huh? The new Ultimate Grogu toy is described by Disney and Hasbro as a “one-of-a-kind” animatronic figure that features more than 250 “animations and sounds” as well as various modes and accessories. And yes, regardless of the price of this thing, it does indeed look a lot like the puppet seen in the shows, which is impressive.
“Our goal with Ultimate Grogu was to make fans feel like he was truly a part of their world,” said Adam Biehl, head of Disney action brands at Hasbro, via press release. “Our design and development team spent hours researching how the character came to life in The Mandalorian series, striving to capture his personality and movements in a way that honors what Lucasfilm has offered in entertainment. Through our long-standing collaboration with Disney Consumer Products, we are introducing the most realistic, interactive and expressive Grogu character Hasbro has ever created.
And you know what, mission accomplished. I’m a Grogu fan and a big one Star Wars sick, so I should like it. But $600 in 2026 doesn’t go as far as it used to, and as prices for games, computers, gas, and food continue to climb, I’m not really excited about spending $600 on an interactive Baby Yoda that will probably collect dust after a few days.
Ultimate Grogu is now available for pre-order via Hasbro Pulse, Amazon, and Fan Channel. It will be available in variants: a standard option that will arrive in 2027, and a limited-time special edition version with unique packaging that will arrive in 2026.
