LOS ANGELES — Actor James Handy, who recently appeared in “Top Gun: Maverick,” was stabbed to death by his girlfriend’s son in Los Angeles Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The cell phone was 81 years old.
The suspect, Michael Gledhill, 44, alerted Los Angeles police after a 911 call around 9:30 a.m., police said.
The 911 caller said, “I’m the son of man, I just killed the man of sin,” police said. said Thursday in a statement.
A representative for Handy confirmed his death.
“It is with great sadness that I can confirm that the man who was attacked and killed on Wednesday in Tarzana was actor James Handy,” Handy’s agent, Pam Ellis-Evenas, said in a statement.
Officers responding to the 911 call found Handy unconscious in the front yard of a home in Tarzana with a stab wound to the chest, police said.
When officers arrived, Gledhill flagged them down and “told them he was the one they were looking for,” police said.
Gledhill, who lives in the house with his mother, was arrested and jailed on murder charges, police said.
He remained in custody Thursday evening, according to online jail records. He was being held on $2 million bail.
Online court records showed no case for Gledhill as of Thursday evening, and it was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
Police said the stabbings appeared to be isolated and there was no danger to the public.
Tarzana, where the stabbing took place, is a neighborhood in northwest Los Angeles.
