Few holidays are more difficult for a single mother than Father’s Day, as it highlights a great lack in the lives of most single mothers. The endless questions begin to pour in.
“Why don’t my children have the loving father they deserve? »
“Why do I have to do everything and he does nothing? »
“Why do I have to struggle financially because he chooses not to pay child support? »
Father’s Day could easily highlight all the things you don’t have and your child doesn’t have. It’s easy to dwell on the failure of a marriage or relationship, on all the things that could and should have been, but no longer are. Many of you may be facing difficult questions from your children on this day about why their father is no longer around.
I would like to offer a different perspective.
Rather than focusing on what you (or your kids) are missing, focus on what the day represents: an awesome dad! Maybe you never had a great earthly father. Maybe you’re frustrated because your kids are missing it too. Well, I have good news for you. You have an awesome Heavenly Father…and so do your children! Teach them this. Our Heavenly Father loves us. The Bible says He will NEVER let us down, leave us, or forsake us. His plans for us are to prosper us and elevate us to higher ground. He watches over us. He nourishes us and shows us mercy and grace. He protects and disciplines us. Isn’t that what a good father does?
Ladies, I cannot explain why you have gone through the difficulties that you are experiencing. But…I know God’s timing is perfect. I know his ways are mysterious, but wise. I know that He is your hope, your source, your refuge and your peace. Your house is not a “broken” house; if you have chosen to make the Lord the center of your life, then He has perfectly complemented your family in this season. You don’t have to live in limbo waiting for the next season. Live this season to the fullest.
The Lord gives strength when we are weak. Today you may feel weak, but I want you to know its love never failsand one day, at the perfect time, your children will be restored. They will have a loving father and you, a loving husband. Until that day, focus on the abundance in your life: the healthy children, the job God gave you to provide for your family, the transportation you drive, the friends who love you, etc.
Psalm 23:6 “Surely your goodness and steadfast love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever. »
