While Microsoft has confirmed some of its upcoming first-party games, as Fablewill come to PlayStation 5, others, as Gears of War: E-Dayhave not yet confirmed their possible multiplatform status. This gave some die-hard Xbox fans hope that it could remain exclusive as a new game. CEO Asha Sharma re-evaluates this part of Microsoft’s strategy. But a new Walmart listing appearing just hours before the Xbox summer showcase may have just extinguished that possibility.
A placeholder Walmart store page For Gears of War: E-Day was discovered earlier this evening and lists a PS5 version for the game. It also includes a $100 price tag for the “standard” version of the game and several “TBD” bullet points for product details. This indicates that this information may be subject to change. Either the PS5 part of the listing is accurate and it accidentally went live earlier, or the information is just a guess that is subject to change once Microsoft holds its showcase on June 7.
This event will consist of one hour Gears of War: E-Day Direct. In addition to an in-depth analysis of the story and gameplay, we will also likely get a release date (currently rumored to be in the fall), followed by confirmation of the game’s release day and date on other platforms, and will remain a timed exclusive. Forza Horizon 6or kept completely away from the PS5.
This latter option would go against Microsoft’s recent cross-platform strategy which has seen the Gears The franchise came to PlayStation for the very first time last summer as a remaster of the original game. It sold decently there, by some estimates, which seems like an obvious choice to bring the new game to PS5 players as well. But Sharma is currently facing pressure for Xbox loyalists to reverse this trend.
“At the same time, we are becoming more and more of a platform,” she says. said Bloomberg this week. “To be a platform you have to have exclusive content and services. That’s why we look at this very closely. I think we have to be very careful about each title and how we want to think about it and learn from similar cases in the industry.”
Gears of War: E-Day will be the first litmus test for where that balance lies in terms of Sharma’s vision for Xbox.
Updated 6/6/2026, 11:30 p.m. ET: The Walmart page has now been removed.
