The endless carousel of games coming and going PlayStation Plus continues, and new arrivals to the June game catalog bring a modern classic Fantasy Finale to Extra and Premium level subscribers. It’s pretty impressive how varied gameplay the iconic RPG series continues to offer. Recently announced Final Fantasy Resonance takes the series back to its roots, while Final Fantasy 7 reveal was finally revealed with its continued evolution of the ATB combat system.
One of the most transformative Fantasy Finale the games will still be coming to PlayStation Plus this month. Final Fantasy 16 joins the game catalog on June 16, according to the announcement of PlayStation Blog. FF16 has an admirable overall rating of 87 on Metacriticand its user score – from over 10,000 reviews – isn’t far below 8.4. The former PlayStation 5 exclusive will soon be free to download for those subscribed to the Extra and Premium PlayStation Plus tiers.

FF16‘s combat has been criticized for lacking depth, which is fair, but its strengths far outweigh the areas where it’s a little thin. My favorite aspects of Final Fantasy 16 are the construction and production value of the world. Valisthea is a fascinating take on the classic EN setting tropes, where the series’ iconic summons, now known as Eikons, are only available to a select few Dominants who transform into them. Clive’s adventure through Valisthea takes him through each of the continent’s major kingdoms, each with a group of characters with big personalities and refreshingly varied environments.
Clive’s quest is made even better thanks to the beauty of the game and the breathtaking rendering of Valisthea. The animation and voice work are top-notch (Ralph Ineson as Cid is a real treat), and some of the more explosive scenes are breathtaking. Final Fantasy 16 is rich in storytelling in the best way, with plenty of smaller vignettes and side stories woven around its main plot.
Final Fantasy 16 is a huge addition to the PlayStation Plus games catalog, joining the June 2026 programming alongside Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Sonic x Shadow Generations, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, Farming Simulator 25, Blades of Fire, Black Desertand the classic Premium only Man with guitar.
Most die-hard fans of the series have probably already checked it out, but Final Fantasy 16 is a great entry point for newcomers. The series is largely an anthology, and FF16 is refreshingly simple while still including many Fantasy Finale staples. This is a good deal for PlayStation Plus Subscribers can enjoy a sprawling cinematic adventure at no extra cost.
