Courtroom headlines continue to follow Ryan Reynolds And Blake Lively.
Much like the attention paid to Lively’s legal battle with Justin Baldoni began to calm down, a separate lawsuit embroiled Reynolds in a new dispute.
The actor’s company is now linked to a multi-million dollar case stemming from a car crash in Manhattan, with two women claiming they were seriously injured in the crash.
Ryan Reynolds linked to new multimillion-dollar lawsuit
The legal battle centers on a March 2024 collision involving a Tesla owned by Reynolds and a Toyota van operated by Access-A-Ride, a transportation service for passengers with disabilities.
According to court documents obtained by the Daily MailBronx residents Kawanna Coleman, 54, and Taji Kelly, 53, each filed lawsuits related to the accident. Together, the claims seek approximately $5 million in damages.
Although Reynolds was not in the Tesla at the time of the accident, the vehicle was reportedly driven by one of his employees in Lower Manhattan.
The lawsuits also name Access-A-Ride and the van’s driver, Nasriddinov Nodirjon, as defendants.
Although Reynolds’ name appears on Tesla’s insurance documents and he is the registered owner of the vehicle, the lawsuit was filed against his company, 2382 Walker Holdings LLC, rather than against him personally.
Questions surround morning crash
The collision reportedly took place on March 2, 2024 in the TriBeCa neighborhood of New York.
Court filings allege the Tesla, which had been purchased recently, changed lanes in front of the Access-A-Ride vehicle before abruptly stopping at a traffic light.
The lawsuit claims wet road conditions and rain made it difficult for the driver of the pickup truck to stop in time, leading to a rear-end collision.
Photos reportedly taken after the crash showed significant damage to both vehicles. The Tesla reportedly suffered dents and scratches on the rear, while the Toyota suffered heavy damage to the front, including a detached grille and bent hood.
The records accuse both drivers of “negligence, carelessness and recklessness” in connection with the incident.
At this point, the allegations remain contained in court documents and have not been proven in court.
The Ryan Reynolds company rejects its claims
Both women involved in the case say they suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision.
According to Kelly’s lawsuit, she suffered “serious and permanent bodily injury” as a result of the accident.
Coleman’s filing alleges she suffered “injuries to various parts of the head, body, limbs and nervous system,” with those injuries apparently requiring hospitalization and prolonged bed rest.
To defend against these claims, Reynolds’ company retained the services of a prominent New York law firm, Wade Clark Mulcahy.
Court filings by the defense contend the women were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and claim that contributed to their alleged injuries.
The case also became more complicated as the New York Transit Authority and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority were named as defendants.
However, both agencies are seeking to withdraw from the litigation, arguing that neither the vehicle involved nor its driver were officially registered with the Access-A-Ride program.
Real estate company Ryan Reynolds embroiled in legal battle
The company at the center of the lawsuit has a direct connection to Reynolds’ real estate holdings.
Records show Reynolds created 2382 Walker Holdings LLC in October 2012 to facilitate the purchase of property in Pound Ridge, New York.
The home, reportedly valued at $5.7 million, is shared by Reynolds and Lively and is about 50 miles from New York City.
Although the lawsuits were initially filed separately, a judge has since linked the cases together because they stem from the same collision.
A status conference hearing is scheduled for September 10 in New York Supreme Court.
Legal Spotlight follows the Reynolds family again
The latest lawsuit comes shortly after another high-profile legal dispute involving the Reynolds family made entertainment headlines.
Blake Lively recently resolved her widely publicized lawsuit against her “It Ends With Us” co-star Justin Baldoni before the case reached trial.
The actress alleged that Baldoni launched a campaign to damage her reputation after accusing him of sexual harassment during production of the 2024 film.
Baldoni denied the allegations and maintained that he neither harassed Lively nor orchestrated any efforts to damage her image.
The actor and director later filed a countersuit against Lively and Reynolds, accusing them of defamation and extortion. This countersuit was ultimately dismissed by a judge.
Now, as a separate legal battle plays out in New York over the Tesla crash, Reynolds once again finds himself linked to another case attracting public attention. Although the outcome remains uncertain, the case is set to keep the Hollywood star’s name in court records for months.
