President Donald Trump said Saturday that a deal to end the war with Iran would be signed Sunday, followed by the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, hours after Iranian state media reported the country remained cautious about the timetable.
“The agreement is expected to be signed tomorrow, and immediately upon signing, the Strait of Hormuz is OPEN TO ALL,” Trump wrote in a statement. Truth on social media.
Trump also suggested that the United States would work with Iran to remove enriched uranium from the country at an unspecified date.
“When the time comes, when everything is calm, we will go in and collect the nuclear dust, buried deep beneath the mighty sunken granite mountains,” he said.
“We look forward to working with Iran and the entire Middle East in the long term,” he added.
However, earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei was quoted by state media as saying caution should be exercised over the timetable for signing a deal.
“We will have to wait to know the exact date of the signing of the memorandum of understanding, even if it will not be tomorrow,” state media reported. “The possibility of this happening in the coming days cannot be ruled out. However, due to the hesitation of the other side, we must be careful in our comments on this process.”
Trump’s message on Saturday ended with what appeared to be a veiled threat against Iran if its leaders did not comply with US demands.

The White House did not immediately respond to a CNBC request for clarification on Trump’s comments.
