Sony has officially announced that you will be able to access PlayStation Plus for free starting this weekend, although you won’t have it forever. Considering all the other announcements PlayStation has made recently, it’s nice to see something a little more positive.
If you have been paying attention to all the latest gaming news (hopefully here on ScreenRant), you will know PlayStation has officially announced it plans to stop record production starting in January 2028 and move to an all-digital future. Between this and the ongoing price increasesit’s fair to say that 2026 hasn’t been the best year for Sony. Again, it’s pretty much the same story across the board.
As such, you’d think a bit of free PlayStation Plus might help cheer everyone up a bit. On the PlayStation X account, they have confirmed that from July 3 to 5 you will be able to access online multiplayer without the need for a PlayStation Plus subscription. Unfortunately, this only seems to have reminded many that having to pay a subscription to play online games is outrageous. Sometimes you just can’t win, can you?
Apparently this particular PlayStation Plus free weekend is aimed at gamers EA Sports FC26 online as the World Cup continues to demand of us all. It’s not just limited to football simulation, however. You will be able to play any game online during this time, regardless of your PlayStation Plus membership status.
Unfortunately, this free weekend is limited only to the online multiplayer aspect of PlayStation Plus. You won’t be able to take advantage of this weekend to dive into the library of free games, which will soon contain Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – Intergenerational Pack, For the king 2And Cross code.
As PlayStation continues to move toward an all-digital future, gamers are increasingly concerned about rising costs. Senior Director of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Sid Shuman, said in an official statement: “This is a natural direction for Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media far exceeds physical discs. This transition will allow us to more closely align with how most of our community prefers to access and play games today. »
Since digital ownership remains an incredible point of contention for consumers (spoiler, you don’t technically own a digital game). PlayStation We’re going to have to do something spectacular to regain the players’ trust. Free PlayStation Plus for a year, anyone?
