It’s been seven years, count ’em, seven years since the Avengers last reunited on the big screen. Around this time, Marvel’s hold on cinema was unraveling. As the holidays approach, Disney is breaking the bank to bring audiences back with Avengers: Apocalypseanother massive crossover. The teasers have been brief so far, but art emerges from the Shanghai Expo gives our clearest glimpse of who, exactly, will come together this time around.
The end of the 2019s Avengers: Endgame saw the death of Iron Man, the time-traveling retirement of Captain America, in addition to the endings of Black Widow, Gamora and Vision. It completed these characters’ decade-long arc and a chapter of seminal cinema, seemingly passing the torch to a new generation of heroes like Moon Knight, She Hulk, and the Eternals. It was, for the most part, a complete disaster. Only Spider-Man and Deadpool make the returns that Marvel Studios has become accustomed to, superhero-baiting blockbusters and nostalgia creeping into the zeitgeist everywhere.

Disney wants to make the box office cheat code work again, and they’re willing to pay any amount to do it. Robert Downey, reportedly paid north of $80 millionreturns, this time as classic supervillain Dr. Doom. Chris Evans is back as Captain America, just like the X-Men, reprized by actors who have been brought back to these roles for a quarter of a century. In this new art we see this includes Professor Deadpool and Wolverine.
This lineup is completed by the Fantastic Four, Thor, Loki, Ant Man, Black Panther, Falcon/Captain America, Shang Chi and the Thunderbolts. Many recent additions to the bloated MCU are missing, but more curiously, there’s no trace of the two most bankable mutants (Wolverine and Deadpool) or the stars of the next Spider-Man movie (Spidey, Hulk and Punisher). In fact, I just learned that Spider-Man shouldn’t appear in this thing at all. It’s really funny. Of course, this general art doesn’t mean that heroes won’t pop out of windows like Hey Haw guests. Earlier doomsday concept art released with Doop in it.
As Grand Theft Auto VImuch of the industry seems to benefit doomsdayReturns. While the Spider-Man films still work well, the cape stuff seems to have completely lost its steam, with Supergirl And Man-man being two of the biggest bombs of the year. Even the latest Star Wars underperformed. The audience seems much more interested in original genre films as Obsession, Behind the scenes And Hail Mary Project. The appetite for overproduced comic book crossovers will be tested when doomsday releases in December. Directly against Dune: Part Three.
