3 key habits to be on your professional A-Game

By David Henzel, co-founder of TaskDrive—we support sales and marketing teams with personalized lead research and outbound campaigns.

Our habits are essential because, whether in our professional, personal or social roles, how we use our time and energy can define who we are. So many entrepreneurs like me tend to prioritize our professional roles and hone all their habits accordingly. But when we do this, not only does our health tend to suffer, but our social relationships can also be negatively affected, resulting in the lack of peace of mind and lack of clarity and focus you may experience. /p>

There are a number of healthy habits we can cultivate in our personal lives that may not seem directly correlated to our professional roles, but in fact, they may be those key habits that will actually lead to a professional life more productive and focused. life. Don't learn this the hard way like I did after gaining weight and feeling stressed because I wasn't engaging in the healthy habits I wanted, instead I always put them in aside, giving priority to professional obligations. Since then, I've learned that if I stick to the healthy routine that works for me, then everything in my life is in harmony, which translates to greater focus: all factors that impact extremely positive on professional life.

Key habits

While every routine we have in our lives is actually a 'habit', key habits or 'keystone' habits - good or bad - are those that have a ripple effect. A key habit may inspire the formation of additional habits on top of the original habit, or the key habit itself may affect multiple areas of our lives. What is important is to make sure that our main habits, that is, the habits that we adopt without thinking and with consistency, are in fact the good habits that work best for us and that we want to have in our lives.

Sweating every day

For example, like many people, you may feel that you don't have enough time to start running regularly or to go to the gym because your work life is too busy or always tends to take over. You may feel guilty for taking time off from your work obligations to focus solely on your health. However, when I started forcing myself to hit the gym and start a running practice, I immediately felt physically better. What I didn't realize was that by exercising, I had the mental clarity needed to find solutions to what seemed like insurmountable problems at work. Not only does exercise make you see things from a different perspective, it can also give you more focus throughout the day, which means that by taking the time to exercise, you get more done. things and faster.

“Sweating every day” has now become one of my main habits and it is best to do it as early in the day as possible. Here are some ways to do this: First, set aside time and schedule a practice session like you would for a business meeting. Book a coach to give you that extra sense of responsibility to help you commit to the challenge. Another healthy habit you could pick up while working out in the morning is not to eat after 9 p.m. so you don't ride that extra wave of nighttime energy, which would mean less sleep. Much like how you can make working out easier by, say, having a personal trainer come to the door at 6 a.m., you can make unhealthy snack caving harder by not even having them to home.

Eat the frog

Another key habit that I strongly advise you to stick to is “eat the frog,” which is finishing the most important task of the day as soon as possible. We all have those urgent tasks which, whether desired or not, weigh on us until we finish them. The longer you hold something, the heavier it becomes, and the “eat the frog” concept of productivity lightens that load by advising you to finish the toughest task of the day first. You need to plan this into your schedule and encourage your staff to do the same. If there is an urgent project that needs to be done quickly, our team participates in 15-minute "stand-up" meetings as early in the day as possible so that everyone is on the same page and feel supported and motivated to undertake the task at hand.
