Rudolph Herzog's '300 Trillion - The Debt Trap' Documentary Acquired by First Hand Films Unveils Trailer (EXCLUSIVE)

A new film by Rudolph Herzog titled "300 Trillion - The Debt Trap", about human stories behind global debt, has been acquired by documentary specialists First Hand Films.

Herzog, who is the son of Werner Herzog, says he was "stunned" to find that “the debts of the world have reached the staggering sum of US$300 trillion.”

"In the film, we go on a journey to uncover the human stories behind these debts, not just to to probe the problem but to find solutions to the global debt crisis," Herzog said. "I wanted to make a film that captures all aspects: the tragedy, the wonder at human madness, and the stories of resilience and ARTE, ARD and Neue Celluloid Fabrik have proven to be excellent partners in this adventure.”

Jürgen Kleinig of production company Neue Celluloid Fabrik added: "We are starting to develop the project in a few years ago. During the pandemic, global debt reached unsustainable levels and we realized we had to produce it now.

"It was a great pleasure to work with Rudolph on this project and with strong ARTE partners and ARD," Kleingig continues. "And we're very happy to have Esther on board for the intentional distribution."

Herzog's previous credits include "The Pedophile Next Door", "How to Fake a War" and "Last Exit: Space."

First Hand Films by Esther van Messel is a producer, sales agent and theatrical distributor of documentaries , based in Zurich and Berlin.
