£60m signing helps stars 'regain confidence' at Man Utd; Ten Hag's message ahead of Liverpool revealed

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed Man Utd signing Casemiro has given the club's squad a much-needed boost.

It's fair to say that Erik ten Hag's debut as Manchester United manager didn't quite go to plan.

After bringing in Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia, they are close to confirming Casemiro's signing from Real Madrid.

This purchase really came out of nowhere as United were previously wasting a lot of time trying to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.

Talks between United and Real Madrid progressed rapidly, with the English club agreeing to pay an initial sum of £60m for the 30-year-old. This fee could be as high as £70m, as £10m is included in potential add-ons.

With Casemiro playing alongside Fred for Brazil, we may have finally seen the end of the partnership with McFred, with Scott McTominay attracting interest from several Premier League clubs.

Man Utd players certainly need a confidence boost and signing Casemiro has done just that, according to Romano.

Knowing that the Brazilian is coming has made the "smiles in the group" return.

As Romano says, that's all well and good, but everyone associated with the club hopes it translates to better performances on the pitch.

They couldn't get any worse after their 4-0 loss to Brentford, but they will need to be on a whole new level if they are to beat Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday night.

In the same game last season, Jurgen Klopp's side triumphed 5-0 on one of the few torrid days for Man Utd in the 2021/22 campaign.

Romano also revealed that Ten Hag wants a 'big reaction' from his players against Liverpool. He also told his team that he sees this important match "as an opportunity to start a new chapter".
