Of course players like Nani and Jonny Evans are still active, but we wanted to dig a little deeper and find those whose career pursuit would raise an eyebrow or two.

And there are more former United players still active than you might think. We've selected seven that you probably didn't know were still playing in 2022.

Babe

Certainly one of the most bizarre signings of the Alex Ferguson era at Old Trafford, Bebe was snatched from the Portuguese Third Division on the recommendation of Carlos Queiroz after he was initially spotted playing in the Portuguese Cup. homeless world.

He showed promise early on and even scored, but was never good enough for United.

Anders Lindegaard

Lindegaard spent five years at United and even won a Premier League medal, making 10 league appearances in the 2012-13 season.

It's not that he wanted credit for Fergie's latest league triumph. "I'm super proud of it, but it wasn't me who won that title," Lindegaard told the Guardian in 2021. "I'm aware that in the great history of Manchester United, I'm a whisper in the wind ."

We won't put it that harshly, but the great Dane was second choice for most of his time interrupted by injury at United, first behind Edwin van der Sar and then David de Gea.< /p>

After leaving United, Lindegaard remained in England, taking on reserve goalkeeping roles at West Brom, Preston and Burnley.

Now 38, he is remarkably still active, featuring for Swedish club Helsingborg, which he helped promote in 2021.

Federico Macheda

The teenage sensation remembered at United for that first goal against Aston Villa, Macheda is just 31, which surely can only be the result of a problem in space-time continuum.

Speaking to Sportbible about Villa's 2020 target, Macheda said: "It was a crazy day because it was so unexpected. It was probably the best start you could imagine. If you're trying to build the perfect first album, I don't think you would be able to build it like mine.

"It was a great pass and I thought it was the only thing I could do. And then it happened like that. I slipped a bit but when I looked up, I knew I was hitting the ball pretty well. The shot was perfect."

Anyway, he recently joined Turkish top-flight club Ankaragucu after four years at Panathinaikos.

Raphael

Not Manchester United's greatest player of the modern era, but certainly one of the most beloved.

Rafael is now back in his native Brazil with boyhood club Botafogo and has recently returned to action after seven months out with an Achilles tendon injury.

For us, however, he will always be the embodiment of the end of the Fergie era at United.

Zoran Tosic

United pushed hard to sign Tosic in 2009, going through a visa appeal process after his initial request was rejected.

He did not repay these efforts. Tosic only played twice, both times off the bench, before he grew impatient and decided to leave.

In 2012, he told the Daily Record: "Even now, I still think about that moment. Maybe I shouldn't have been so quick and I should have...
