Actress Gina Carano may take on Ronda Rousey on Netflix on May 16, but “Star Wars” fans can’t wait to see her reprise her role as Cara Dune in a galaxy far, far away. Although she appeared in the first two seasons of “The Mandalorian,” she was fired due to controversial social media posts made during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. After settling her wrongful termination lawsuit, it seemed possible — although unlikely — that she would one day return to the franchise, especially since Season 4 of the Disney+ series was reworked into a movie that is set to hit theaters next month. Although she won’t appear in the film, it’s possible she could return to the Lucasfilm franchise, as she recently revealed that she had already spoken to Lucasfilm’s new co-CEO, Dave Filoniand showrunner Jon Favreau.

While it’s unclear if she’ll ever return to a galaxy far, far away, it appears she’s at least on good terms with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, with whom she previously worked on the first two seasons of “The Mandalorian.”
“I already had a conversation with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. We had a Zoom call. It was really nice,” she said during an interview with Ariel Helwani. “Dave takes over as CEO of Star Wars. We didn’t miss a thing. Jon Favreau got on Zoom and was really funny. He was like; where did we leave off?”
Although his partner in The Mandalorian, Carl Weathers, died, Carano received support from another partner: the comedian. Bill Burr.

Following her controversial firing, the comedian called Carano an “absolute sweetheart” and a “super fucking nice person,” as The Blast previously reported. “Unless she did some really horrible shit or she said some blatantly racist shit, I don’t know. I think there are just too many channels,” he said at the time.
“And then you have to do some sensational shit,” he continued. “I don’t know what it is. I’m on this fucking show. Now I have to be careful what I say.”
Bill Burr called Gina Carano’s firing ‘bizarre’
In an April 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Burr spoke about the politics that led to his firing and called it “bizarre.”
“I found it funny that the Liberals were proving his point,” he explained. “They’re just outraged because they don’t like your policies. As someone who considers themselves liberal, it’s disappointing to see the left go back to what the right was when they went after the Dixie Chicks after criticizing George W. Bush.”
“There aren’t many people like that – most are just trying to stay out of trouble – but there is this small group of crazy people – whether on the right or the left, at any given time – who cause hysteria,” he continued. “And now there are so many [media outlets] who want eyeballs, they make money from advertising, they pay attention to these crazy fringe people.
“The whole thing with Gina: you can’t intervene when shit is happening, because then you cause static in the other people on the scene. [show]. That someone’s opinion – or political beliefs – would cause people to try to destroy their ability to earn a living seems really weird to me.
Bill Burr speaks candidly about cancel culture
Burr went on to say that what happened to Carano could happen to anyone in the age of social media, pointing out how old tweets can be dug up in order to “cancel” someone who has a different perspective.
“And I love the idea that someone can go back eight years into someone’s Twitter feed and say, ‘What about this?'” he continued. “And no one says, ‘We had to go back eight years to find something?! He’d seem like a really good person if we had to go back eight fucking years!’ Meanwhile, there are people getting paroled every day who have done much worse and are being given the opportunity to rebuild their lives.”
“You can have 20-year wars, you can create synthetic heroin, you can poison the food supply. You can do all this crap and it will barely be read,” he continued. “They did a study the other day that 85 percent of people have plastic in their bodies – it’s horrible. Who’s going to be held responsible for this? No one. But I could tell you five different things that if I made jokes about, I’d get in more trouble than the people who caused this.”
