Earlier this week, retired Vice Admiral and former Navy SEAL Robert Harward appeared on Fox News to discuss the war in Iran. But rather than what he said, it was a strange, dark spot on his neck that quickly went viral online, with many suggesting it was evidence of a mask or some sort of AI-powered facial filter. And despite an official response from Fox, conspiracy theories are spreading everywhere.
On May 19, during an early morning segment on Fox News, Harward — who previously served as deputy commander of U.S. Central Command — appeared for a few minutes to discuss the war in Iran and offer his thoughts and expert opinions. This is the kind of crap that happens all the time on the 24/7 news networks. It really shouldn’t have been a big deal. But the moment Harward appeared on screen, you may notice… something on his neck that doesn’t look right.
Over the past few days, this strange stain on the retired vice admiral’s neck has quickly spread from some of the…let’s say “stranger” parts of the Internet, like R/Aliens on Reddit, to Twitter, TikTok, YouTube and more. Many people are convinced that Harward is wearing some sort of mask in the music video. A viral article on R/Aliens called it a “hyper-realistic silicone mask.”
If you look around, you can find many people and channels on the web covering this strange neck spot. Many of them believe he wears a kind of maskpointing out what they claim is a lack of movement and blinking. Others have floated the idea that it was some sort of AI facial filter used to make him look younger or to conceal the face of another person posing as the retired vice admiral.
Finally, the channel hosting the clip of Fox Newsthe Jewish Institute for National Security of America, has disabled comments. This led to more conspiracy theories.
TMZ contacted Fox News about the viral clip and the weird neck… thing, and the network sent back this explanation:
“Vice Admiral Robert Harward appeared on FOX News Channel earlier this week via a remote mobile camera operated by an outside vendor. During the interview, the lighting conditions in the van contrasted with the Vice Admiral’s jacket, causing a shadow to appear on his neck.”
On May 21, a Polymarket bet went live to find out whether or not he was wearing a mask. The next day, when Harward appeared on Fox News again, he wore a suit and tie that covered his chest and more of his neck.
None of this has quashed theories that it was a mask. In fact, people now think it’s all part of a larger cover-up.
Of course, no one has a good answer as to why Harward or anyone else would wear a realistic mask on a random morning. Fox News. Nor can anyone explain why, later the same day, he has been seen in other interviews and he didn’t have that weird mark on his neck. Nor can anyone explain why the powers behind this alleged conspiracy would have allowed the footage to circulate on the web or why the feed was not cut off when it was posted online if it revealed part of a bizarre plan.
Again, it looks a lot like a mask. Maybe I need to be careful. Stop asking so many questions online. Oh, hey, what’s that noise? Wait a second, why is there a black helicopter above my house? Hmm…
