James is a games writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles of all genres. While he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2, and League of Legends, he’s also devoted thousands of hours to single-player experiences, from in-depth RPGs to epic strategies on PC. When he’s not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.
There are few, if any, more iconic and beloved franchises in cinematic history than Back to the futureespecially in the science fiction genre. The performances of Michael J. Fox and Christoper Lloyd contributed most to this, with both characters serving as immensely recognizable cultural touchstones at this point.
With all of this in mind, it’s a little strange how little we’ve seen of the franchise in other mediums. It has appeared elsewhere over the years, but not with the same frequency as other IPs with a similar scope of appeal. However, that’s all about to change and the movie is about to appear in a very literal sense in a brand new video game release.
In case you missed all the excitement of the recent State of Play, the event marked the return of a criminally underrated franchise, with Saber Interactive confirming that Stuntman: Hollywood is actively under development.
THE Stuntman The series has been a lot of fun across the two games we’ve had so far. This basically allowed players to perform huge stunts in vehicles, all to get the shots we needed for different films, before we could then watch the rendered film, once we’d done our job as daredevil drivers.
As shared in a trailer on Twitter/X while discussing cinemaStuntman: Hollywood is, however, the first we’ve seen of the series since 2007, and it’s about to bounce back in a very big way. As part of this, the stunts we perform this time are all taken from real-world productions, including Fast & Furious, Miami Vice, Knight Rider, Death Raceand the above Back to the future.
Watching the Delorean demolish the street and crash through a moving billboard is really, really cool, and it really feels like a natural focus for the film as a whole. While we’ll obviously have to wait and see what the gameplay actually looks like, adding licensed properties to the equation seems like a masterstroke and a logical step to immediately generate more appeal.
As expected, fans have been thrilled with what they’ve seen so far, with a adage“Real mfs remember this classic, I hope it will be a spiritual successor.”
While another added“Damn, I’ve watched this gameplay many times…it looks amazing.”
The only downside to all this good entertainment is that Stuntman: Hollywood doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, so we’ll likely wait a while to see exactly what Saber Interactive has cooked up. However, it’s charming Back to the future will be part of this equation, even if it will not replace direct adaptation.
