Laurent Saint-Victor celebrates a career-defining moment.

He also reflected on the emotional phone call that left him speechless, how Carter Walton has evolved over the years and why he’s more grateful than ever for the life he leads both on and off screen.
Soap opera actor and writer Lawrence Saint-Victor is in celebration mode
Lawrence Saint-Victor is celebrating a career-defining year after earning two 2026 Daytime Emmy nominations, one for his longtime portrayal of Carter Walton on “The Bold and the Beautiful” and another for his work as a writer on the hit CBS soap opera.
To make the celebration even bigger, the feat also made him the first black actor to receive Daytime Emmy nominations in both the acting and writing categories in the same year.
“Brad Bell [executive producer and head writer for ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’] called me as I was dropping my son off at camp with my wife, and I was completely speechless. “I knew this was the time they would be announced, but I was busy doing stuff with dad and I didn’t have to focus on that or wait to hear,” Lawrence exclusively told The Blast. “And when my phone rang and I saw his name on my caller ID, I thought, ‘This could be good news!’ And yes, incredible news and I was completely speechless. I tried to tell him how grateful I was, but the words weren’t really coming out.
Being the first black actor to be nominated for acting and writing in the same year made this milestone even more amazing for Lawrence.
“I’m still digesting it,” he continued. “I think it makes me think of all the people of color who opened the door for me, so it’s just wonderful to be a part of that legacy.”
Lawrence Saint-Victor has played the same character for over a decade
Lawrence has played Carter Walton on the popular soap opera for over 13 years, watching the once-stoic lawyer evolve into one of daytime drama’s most complex and emotionally complex characters.
Portraying the same character for this long means watching them and helping them evolve over time.
“I think for a long time, Carter was a really good guy with a good moral compass, the guy you could lean on,” he said. “There’s a reason why he comes across as so perfect. There’s a reason why he presents himself as a superhero. I was good at storylines that start to lift the veil of this kind of lonely, broken man who puts on this air of excellence because that’s how he draws people to him.”
He continued to share that Carter wanted nothing more than to get married and have children, and the dynamic made it “wonderful to peel back the layers” of the character.
Portraying the same character for so long also gives Lawrence a unique perspective that many actors don’t usually have.
“It makes me grateful because I have a lot of things in my life that Carter aspires to and almost vice versa,” he said. “When I play Carter and I connect to his loneliness, it makes me say, ‘Wow, I actually have the things he wants.’ It’s very interesting so I would say I’m grateful when I look at my life.
Getting into writing in addition to acting
Lawrence always had an interest in writing and was writing in college. It wasn’t until his time on “The Bold and the Beautiful” and his relationship with Brad Bell over the years that he became interested in writing for the series.
“We talked so much about stories, and then one day he [Bell] “It’s one thing to try to write your own projects, but it’s another thing when you go into a show where you’re writing someone else’s vision. That was something that I was very attracted to, and also terrified of. But I would say Brad Bell was the one who saw it in me before I saw it in myself.
Being an actor has influenced the way he approaches writing scenes and dialogue, giving him a unique perspective that non-actors wouldn’t exactly have.
“I think that’s what gave me my edge. Coming in, our writers are so great and they’ve been writing for so long, so when I set out as a writer, it’s like I can’t compete with them,” he shared. “I can’t carry that level of weight. But what I have is I’m on set. I hear how the dialogue sounds in our mouths. I hear how each actor can change the dialogue to make it more natural or more in line with the way they’re playing the character. So I have this idea.”
Why Lawrence Saint-Victor believes “The Bold and the Beautiful” continues to resonate with audiences after so many years
“The Bold and the Beautiful” has been on the air since early 1987. With many fans watching since the early years and continuing to do so today, it’s clear that the soap opera has a way of drawing fans in and keeping them interested.
“I think soap operas in general give the audience the opportunity to feel like they’re growing up with the characters. It’s like going to church. It’s like going to your favorite restaurant. It’s there. You know what to expect and there may be twists and turns and surprises, but there’s something very familiar about coming home,” he told The Blast. “What I think is unique about The Bold and the Beautiful is that we’re not set in a fictional city, in a fictional state, in a fictional city; we’re set in Los Angeles, and a lot of our show is based in Los Angeles.”
He added that the show also took viewers to other locations such as Monaco, Monte Carlo and Australia, and gave an insight into the “crazy lives of the rich and famous”.
Advice for beginner actors and what Lawrence Saint-Victor would like to do in the future
When asked what advice he would give to a new actor starting out, Lawrence replied, “learn your craft.”
“Learn to act. There’s a million ways to do it. You can go to a traditional school or you can get a coach or you can go to an improv studio, whatever it is, learn your craft so you can own it,” he said. “Once you own it, it’s yours, so you can do whatever you want with it.”
He added “never give up,” explaining that “the common denominator between so many successful people is that they simply stayed in the race because you never know when your ticket will be announced.” »
As for things he hasn’t done yet in his career that he hopes to do one day, Lawrence would love to “play a superhero,” so you never know where you’ll see him next.
