The Mandalorian and GroguThe first trailer for was released online in September 2025. However, while it teased a lot, including the character of Sigourney Weaver and Rotta the Hutt (more on them shortly), it didn’t tell us anything about the plot.
Things didn’t get any clearer after a new teaser for The Mandalorian and Grogu aired during this year’s Super Bowl. Indeed, the 30-second TV spot received backlash from many Star Wars fans, who simply wanted another in-depth look at the upcoming film.
Fortunately, Disney and Lucasfilm have revealed The Mandalorian and Groguthe main trailer for February 17. Check it out below:

The Mandalorian and Grogu casting confirmed
Possible spoilers follow for The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Here is the list of actors confirmed so far for the next Star Wars film:
- Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin/The Mandalorian
- Grogu as himself
- Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward
- Steve Blum as Garazeb ‘Zeb’ Orrelios
- Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt
- Martin Scorsese as an anonymous Ardennes trader
As The Mandalorianmain duo, it wouldn’t be a cinematic sequel to the Disney+ Original series without Din Djarin and Grogu/Baby Yoda.
They’ll also be joined by at least one familiar face in this film, with Blum returning to voice the Lasat known affectionately as Zeb. After debuting in the animated series Star Wars: Rebels as a member of the Ghost crew, Zeb is now captain of The New Republic. He will likely take orders from Colonel Ward, aka the once-mysterious character Sigourney Weaver was cast to play in May 2024.
Weaver won’t be the only newcomer to the Star Wars franchise.
For starters, legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese will make a voice-only appearance as the Ardennian trader who Mando and Grogu visit for information on certain Hutts, aka the sentient slug-like creatures known to become crime lords.
White, who is best known for playing Carmen Berzatto in The bear (aka the multi-award winning and critically acclaimed Hulu TV show), was cast as one of these Hutts, with White being hired to play Rotta, the muscular son of Jabba the Hutt. He’s one of three confirmed Hutts we’ll see, although it’s unclear who will voice the others. For now, Disney and Lucasfilm simply call them Brother and Sister Hutt.
Additionally, no one knows who was hired to play Bai, Clang, and Keeto, i.e. the three Ancellans we see riding with Grogu in trailer #1. The same goes for Embo, a fearsome Hutt bounty hunter and bodyguard first seen during the Clone Wars. Embo was confirmed to be part of the proceedings in The Mandalorian and GroguThe official trailer for.
Finally, Deadline reported that Coyne will reprise his role as one of the unnamed Imperial warlords we saw in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 7. He is a member of the Council of Shadows who met – via Hologram – Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon in Star Wars TV Original. Hopefully we’ll find out his real name in the movie.
Mandalorian and Grogu Story Synopsis and Speculation
The Mandalorian and GroguThe story of is largely under lock and key before its release. Indeed, Disney has only revealed a logline for the film, which reads: “The evil Empire has fallen and Imperial warlords remain scattered across the galaxy. As the nascent New Republic strives to protect all that the Rebellion has fought for, it has called upon the legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu.”
Still, the trailers, especially the most recent one, have given some hints as to what the story would entail. Potential spoilers immediately follow for The Mandalorian and Groguso proceed at your own risk.
Judging by the first clips of trailer #2, the eponymous duo will seek out brother and sister Hutt in order to extract information from them about the remains of the Galactic Empire. This way, they can track down anyone still loyal to Emperor Palpatine (who isn’t dead yet, remember) and, in the words of Mando himself, “eliminate all the bad guys” from The New Republic’s “card game.”
For Colonel Ward, however, sending Din and Baby Yoda on this mission “isn’t about revenge”, it’s about “preventing another war” from breaking out if the Galactic Empire rises from the ashes to try to tyrannically boast it over the galaxy once again. Whether or not the titular couple agrees with this is up for debate.
Of course, our intrepid heroes’ plans won’t come true without a few hiccups along the way. Indeed, trailer #2 reveals that they are going to butt heads. With Din captured by the Hutts, Grogu hunted by Embo, and a myriad of criminals and monsters searching for them, this could be the pair’s most dangerous quest yet.
Then there’s the elephant in the room about how The Mandalorian and Grogu could set the stage for the Star Wars crossover film that new Lucasfilm co-CEO Dave Filoni is leading development of.
One of several new Star Wars films and Disney+ shows in development, the untitled ensemble film would see Din Djarin, Grogu, Ahsoka Tano and other Star Wars heroes team up to do battle with Grand Admiral Thrawn. He’s the blue-skinned Big Bad with ambitions to remake the Galactic Empire in his own image, and a fan-favorite villain played by Lars Mikkelsen in season 1 of Star Wars: Ahsoka.
Since some Imperial remains will appear in The Mandalorian and Grogushould we expect this movie to start sowing the seeds for this team-up movie? Or was it put on the back burner amid the change in leadership at Lucasfilm? We’ll have to wait and see.
Is The Mandalorian season 4 still in development?
Despite the ensemble film I mentioned, Lucasfilm and Disney would be foolish to end Mando and Baby Yoda’s story after The Mandalorian and Grogu. The possibility of the couple returning to Disney+ (aka one of the best streaming services in the world) for another season isn’t strange.
Will a fourth season of The Mandalorian but is it happening? In January 2024, Deadline reported that The Mandalorian season 4 was in development. More recently, Jon Favreau, co-creator of the Star Wars television series and director of its upcoming film sequel, said Empire magazine (per Fiction Horizon): “We were planning on doing a fourth season. I actually had all of that written. I still have season 4 on my desk.”
In short, don’t expect Lucasfilm or its parent company to put an end to two of their most popular characters just yet.
