Anyone who uses Photoshop regularly knows that the photo editing application has undergone a big AI transformation in recent years. Adobe is now taking the next step in this journey. Photoshop’s AI assistant is publicly available in web and mobile apps.
Photoshop’s AI assistant is meant to be an editing partner. You can ask the AI to make almost any type of modification, whether it’s changing the color of an object or removing an intrusive element. While business users might be comfortable making these changes manually, the AI assistant might be more appealing to less experienced users and people working under tight deadlines. Adobe Express, the company’s Canva competitor, has been offering a similar AI assistant in public beta for several months.
While these AI assistants won’t be the “do-it-all machines” that ChatGPT or Gemini claim to be, it’s a striking sign that Adobe’s AI revolution is underway. They emphasize “conversational and agent” experiences – meaning you can ask the chatbot to make changes and it can handle them independently. The company’s focus on agentic AI, such as a large part of the AI industryaims to persuade people to delegate tasks to AI.

These AI efforts represent a broad spectrum of what conversational editing can look like, Mike Polner, Adobe Firefly’s vice president of product marketing for creators, said in an interview.
“One end of the spectrum is [to] type in a prompt and say, “Make my hat blue.” It’s very simplistic,” Polner said. “With Project Moonlight, it can understand your context, explore and help you come up with new ideas, and then help you analyze the content you already have,” Polner said.

AdobeIn a recent Adobe survey of 16,000 global creators, 86% reported using creative generative AI. More than three-quarters (80%) said Gen AI helped them create content they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to create. The new statistics align with the growing popularity of generative media tools, such as AI image and video generators, with newer models like Sora from OpenAI And Google’s nano banana is going viral this year.
Adobe has been dedicated to AI for some time. In 2025, Adobe launched AI-powered mobile apps for Photoshop, Firefly And a new video editor called Premiere. Professional photographers, designers, and illustrators who are Adobe’s primary customers have not all been sold Adobe’s AI ambitions, raising concerns about AI legality, energy consumption and ethics.
