Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Promotes Amy Homma to Director of Audiences - Film News in Brief

Longtime Academy Museum of Motion Pictures executive Amy Homma was promoted to director of audiences on November 28 Announcement by Director and President of the Academy Museum, Jacqueline Stewart.

"Amy has proven herself to be a capable, forward-thinking and inspirational leader since she was started at the museum in 2019, and I look forward to seeing her and her teams thrive in this new capacity," said Stewart. "As a seasoned programmer, educator, and administrator who brings an in-depth knowledge of public and museum engagement, Amy is the perfect person to lead the next chapter in our museum's external relations."

Prior to her reappointment, Homma worked as Vice President of Education and Engagement of the public at the Academy Museum. Under his leadership, the museum has developed K-12 programming and public programs rooted in accessibility and activism.

Homma was introduced to the Academy Museum as its inaugural director - a position she acquired at the end of its holder at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

In his new role, Homma will continue to facilitate community engagement while having a heavier hand in maintaining the museum of inclusive values.

"I look forward to working with multiple teams to further develop the impact and engagement of the museum to local, national, and global audiences through a visitor-centric approach,” said Homma.

Cinema Audio Society will honor Alejandro González Iñárritu with the Filmmaker Award

Alejandro González Iñárritu will receive the Filmmaker of the Year Award from the Cinema Audio Society at the 59th CAS Awards Saturday, March 4 at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown Hotel.

"It is an honor to name director Alejandro González Iñárritu as the recipient of the prestigious 2023 CAS Filmmaker Award His sober portrayals of the human experience bring empathy and awareness to perspectives that are often overlooked and unaddressed," said CAS President Karol Urban. "Undoubtedly drawing inspiration from his musical history, his films experiment with and use sound, uniquely embracing its ability to emotionally overwhelm the viewer."

Upon learning that he was to receive the honor from CAS, Mr. Iñárritu said: " To be singled out as a filmmaker by my colleagues at the Cinema Audio Society is a great honor, I've had the pleasure of collaborating with some of the most gifted sound designers in the industry and I really can't stress enough of the work they do to create an entirely sensory experience for the audience when watching a film."
