American actor Danny Masterson was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for raping two women.

Masterson starred in That '70s Show, a television series that aired at the time of his crimes in the early 2000s.

Prosecutors argued that Masterson , 47, had relied on his status as an eminent Scientologist. to avoid accountability.

Judge Charlaine Olmedo allowed the victims of her crimes to read their statements in court before sentencing.

Former Scientologist and actress Leah Remini attended Thursday's sentencing hearing and comforted the women before and after they were makes their statements.

"I wish I had reported him to the police sooner," said one of the women, according to American media.

Another woman told Masterson: "I forgive you. Your illness is no longer mine," according to Reuters.
