Adèle Exarchopoulos in the American trailer for the mystery thriller "The Five Devils"

The Five Devils Trailer

"A wizarding thriller…" If you like weird and mysterious French films, pay attention to this one. Mubi has released an official US essay for The Five Devils, a French film by director Léa Mysius (also from Ava previously). It is now set to open in theaters from March. This premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival last year in the sidebar of the Directors' Fortnight. Vicky lives with her mother Joanne and her father Jimmie, a man struggling to find his place. When Vicky's aunt Julia arrives after her release from prison, her presence brings the past to life in a violent and magical way. She has special powers that allow her to connect to the past through smells. The film is led by a magical performance by young actress Sally Dramé as Vicky - which is the real breakthrough this time around. Glad she's appearing in this trailer. It also stars Adèle Exarchopoulos as her mother, Swala Emati, Moustapha Mbengue, Patrick Bouchitey, Daphne Patakia and Hugo Dillon. The film is not among the best French films, but it is worth seeing for the concept of this little girl's "sorcerer" powers.

Vicky, a strange and lonely little girl, has a magical gift: she can replicate any scent she likes, and collects them in a series of neatly labeled jars. She secretly picked up the scent of Joanne, her mother for whom she harbors a wild and excessive love. When her father's sister, Julia, bursts into their lives, Vicky replicates her scent and is transported into dark, archaic memories that lead her to uncover the secrets of her village, her family, and her own existence. /em> The Five Devils, also known as The Five Devils, is directed by French filmmaker Léa Mysius, director of the acclaimed film Ava before, as well as a few other shorts. The screenplay is written by Paul Guilhaume and Léa Mysius. Produced by Jean-Louis Livi and Fanny Yvonnet. This premiere was presented at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in the Directors' Fortnight section. Mubi will release The Five Devils by Mysius in select US theaters starting March 24, 2023 this spring.
