AFC leads sports medicine with new conference dates, courses and anti-doping regime

July 7 - The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Medical Committee has appointed Malaysia as the host for its 8th medical conference to be held in 2025, from July 21-25.

The 7th edition was held in Qatar earlier this year and brought together more than 600 delegates who got a comprehensive overview of the latest advances in sports science and medicine.

The AFC Medical Committee, at its first meeting for the 2023-2027 term, approved membership of the various AFC Expert Advisory Groups as well as specific guidelines and terms of reference to ensure that the respective panels continue to serve the aims and objectives of the AFC as well as the development of football in particular.

The Medical Committee has also approved research projects on mental health and gender eligibility in football. The AFC said it would be the first confederation to hold the FIFA Advanced Football Emergency Medicine Course from October 24-25, 2023. On the subject of doping, the committee noted that the Dried Blood Spot (DBS) test will be carried out for the first time during the AFC's flagship competition, the Asian Cup Qatar 2023.
