All the Details on the 'Hunger Games' Prequel 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents'

May the odds always be in our favor as the long-awaited “Hunger Games” prequel movie heads to theaters.

Based on the Suzanne Collins novel "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents", the prequel film will reveal the origin story behind the world of the viral series "The Hunger Games", which starred stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson in a love triangle that sparked the post-apocalyptic life-or-death tournament of teenage tributes.

Director Francis Lawrence returns to the franchise to helm “The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents,” introducing an all-new series of homages. Screenwriter Michael Lesslie ("Assassin's Creed") is writing the screenplay. The origin story of President of Panem Coriolanus Snow, played by Donald Sutherland in the original films, is also revealed, with "The Gilded Age" star Tom Blyth as young Coriolanus. Rachel Zegler stars in the lead role. The film is set to hit theaters on November 17, 2023.

What's the plot?

"The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents" takes place during the 10th Annual Hunger Games. 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) is selected to mentor District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird, played by 'West Side Story' and 'Snow White' star Rachel Zegler.

Coriolanus is the "last hope of his dwindling bloodline, a once-proud family that has fallen out of favor in a postwar Capitol," according to an official Lionsgate synopsis. “But, after Lucy Gray got Panem's full attention by singing defiantly during the harvest ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor. Uniting their showmanship instincts and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy's race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird and who is a snake. »
