"Batgirl" already completed scrapped by Warner Bros. Discovery, won't be released on HBO Max or theaters

“The Flash” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” from Warner Bros. may be plagued by off-screen drama, but there's one DC movie that suffers a more conclusive fate: the upcoming "Batgirl."

The Warner Bros. movie. Discovery will be shelved indefinitely, a Warner Bros. representative has confirmed. at IndieWire. "Batgirl" was set to star Leslie Grace ("In the Heights") in the title role, with J.K. Simmons, Michael Keaton and Brendan Fraser rounding out the cast. The film was originally slated for release on HBO Max with reports that Warner Bros. President Toby Emmerich was also considering a theatrical release.

However, "Batgirl" will no longer be visible at all.

Warner Bros. Discovery now prioritizes theaters for their DC IP, and "Batgirl" was not deemed suitable for film or HBO Max. The film proved to be an expensive outing for the studio, with a reported budget of $90 million due to COVID protocols and closures piling up on the already $80 million film.

DC's next installment "The Flash" was apparently set to set up the next phase of the DCU, with Michael Keaton and now Ben Affleck reprising their respective roles as different iterations of Batman in a film spanning several universes. Yet multiple arrests and allegations of abuse of "The Flash" star Ezra Miller have called the DCU's path into question.

On March 30, Warner Bros. and DC reportedly held an emergency meeting to discuss Miller's future with the studio before "The Flash" premieres in June 2023. Miller also stars in "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore." in theaters April 15.

Rolling Stone reported that a knowledgeable source claimed that the consensus of the Warner Bros.-DC meeting was to "pause any future projects involving Miller, including possible appearances in the DC Cinematic Universe ".

A source tells IndieWire, however, that no such meeting took place.
