Amanda Seyfried 'hopes for a miracle' to return to 'Mean Girls' for original cast cameos

Amanda Seyfried is ready to welcome the next generation of plastics.

The Emmy winner has revealed she's still determined to star in the upcoming musical adaptation of the movie 'Mean Girls.'

"I'm still hoping for a miracle. It's not really up to us, is it?" Seyfried said.

The 'Dropout' actress has confirmed that co-stars Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams and Lacey Chabert are also set to return. "All four of us are 100% into it," she said, adding that she already had a cameo idea. “Perhaps the mothers of our characters? That's what I thought, but look, I haven't even seen the script."

Tina Fey and Tim Meadows reprise their respective teaching roles nearly 20 years after the original 2004 high school comedy. Fey wrote the screenplay for the Tony-nominated musical adaptation, along with her husband Jeff Richmond behind the music and Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne conducting. It's unclear if the musical is a direct remake of the original film, but Plastics' casting has been announced.

"I'd kill just to do a week, each of us playing our own roles in 'Mean Girls' on Broadway," Seyfried said, citing the musical show. "Because a 'Mean Girls 2' will never happen, will it?"

Lohan replied at the time, "I don't know. I heard it was a musical and I was like, 'Oh no.' it's the same tone."

Seyfried agreed, "Yeah. It would just be completely different."

Former co-star Lizzy Caplan recently told Grazia magazine that she would "of course" want to be part of a possible "Mean Girls" sequel. "I'd be a fool not to join," the 'Fatal Attraction' star said.
