Anderlecht's revolving doors see Verbeke as the latest out

January 23 - Peter Verbeke will leave Anderlecht with new Danish Sports CEO Jesper Fredberg deciding there is no longer a role for the club's former CEO and technical director.

Verbeke is the latest victim of Anderlecht's endless board shuffle following Wouter Vandenhaute's decision to step back as chairman and take on a non-executive chairman role.

Verbeke arrived three years ago with the task of stabilizing the ship on a shoestring budget, but had been on sick leave since October due to a viral infection. Since 2021 and the departure of Jos Donvil, he has been both CEO and CTO.

Working closely with current Burnley manager Vincent Kompany, Verbeke has made a number of successful signings for the club, including Joshua Zirkzee, but his transfer policy has often been hit or miss. Verbeke had a contract that ran until 2025.

At least on the pitch, there has been some relief for the club over the weekend, beating Seraing 1-0 away on Sunday to avoid an even bigger crisis and the possibility of relegation. Eleventh in the standings, the winners of the Belgian championship record have 27 points in 22 matches.
