Andreas Melbostad launches seasonless unisex and eco-friendly collection

MILAN — Andreas Melbostad goes solo.

Norwegian designer launches limited-edition collection of unisex and off-season pieces exclusively available online at Melbostad. com.

Melbostad has years of experience under its belt. Most recently, he was creative director of the now-discontinued Diesel Black Gold brand, but began his career working with Alber Elbaz for Guy Laroche and Yves Saint Laurent. In 2001, he moved from Paris to New York and began working with Calvin Klein on the designer's iconic brand's women's collection, joining Donna Karan two years later.

He also opened an eponymous fashion design consultancy, worked on the Phi collection of the start-up of Susan Dell and with creator Roberto Cavalli.

His new line is sourced and produced in Italy and Melbostad is committed to sustainable standards. Its products will be marketed throughout the year and shipped directly to the consumer from the manufacturer, reducing waste and costs.

A look from the first Melbostad collection.

The design aesthetic is built around a Scandinavian narrative and the first offering includes a jacket in leather, a utility denim jacket, overshirts, tunic shirts, skirts, hoodies and T-shirts.

The silhouette is relaxed and oversized, with extra-long sleeves and cuffed cuffs. Military clothing and workwear provide a general utility benefit.

The color palette revolves around black, white, off-white, slate, light grey, pewter, taupe and fawn.

Metal hardware details add industrial accents and there are knit and webbing details that add texture to fabrics, ranging from denim and fleece to organic cotton and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified jerseys. Cotton utility shirts are produced in accordance with ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals) waste water guidelines. The leather is certified to LWG (Leather Working Group) standards.

The collection includes black and white Scandinavian landscape photos by award-winning Swedish fine art photographer Håkan Strand.
