Angela Lansbury left Los Angeles to save her children from the influence of Charles Manson

Needless to say, even before the Tate-LaBianca murders in the summer of 1969, Manson's cult was a dangerous group to be part of. According to author Jeff Guinn in his book "Manson: The Life and Times of Charles Manson", heavy and frequent drug use throughout the cult was common, with Manson encouraging his followers to take large doses of LSD. /p>

Because of the dangers posed by the cult leader, Lansbury told her then-husband, Peter Shaw, that the family had to move. She wanted their children, especially her daughter, to be as far away from Manson's influence as possible, as her drug addiction worsened under his influence. She chose County Cork, Ireland, which she visited until her death.

"I was drawn to Ireland because it was my mother's birthplace and it was also a place where my children would no longer be exposed to bad influences", she explained. "So I refused all work for a year and just kept the house."

Fortunately, the drastic change of scenery worked. Lansbury recalled that Anthony recovered fairly quickly, and although Deidre took a bit longer to heal from her addiction, she eventually fully recovered. Although she was grateful, she couldn't help but fear what might have happened if they hadn't intervened.

"Certainly I have no doubt that we would have lost one or both of our two had they not been moved to a completely different medium," Lansbury said. "We were so lucky to have spotted what was happening just in time."
