Anne Heche in Coma After Car Crash: Actor in "Extreme Critical Condition"

Anne Heche is in a coma following a car accident in Los Angeles on August 5. The actor's rep said in a statement, "Anne is in extremely critical condition at this time. She has significant lung damage requiring mechanical ventilation and burns requiring surgery. She is in a coma and is n has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident."

The rep originally provided an update on Saturday, saying Heche was "currently in stable condition" and adding, "His family and friends are asking for your thoughts and prayers." We also ask that you respect his privacy during this difficult time. Thank you."

Heche was hospitalized on Friday after her car crashed into a house in the 1700 block of Walgrove Avenue in West Los Angeles, according to reports from NBC4LA and CNN. According to multiple reports, Heche suffered burns when the Mini Cooper she was driving caught fire. The actor was also reportedly involved in an accident minutes before the Walgrove Avenue accident at a nearby apartment complex.

The accident happened as Heche was preparing to promote her role in Lifetime's opioid crime drama "Girl in Room 13." Heche was scheduled to appear at the Television Critics Association press tour this week to tout the upcoming project.

Heche's credits include 1997's 'Donnie Brasco' and 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' and 1998's 'Six Days Seven Nights'. His regular TV series include Fox's 'Ally McBeal', 'Everwood' from WB Network, ABC's "Men in Trees" and NBC's "The Michael J. Fox Show".
