Anton Du Beke: "I would clear the floor if I danced in a disco"

Growing up was always about being outdoors, playing football and cricket, riding a bike. Dancing only started when I was about 13 years old. I didn't play rugby, but I loved schoolboy boxing. I would spin inside and hit them with the other hand, unknowingly.

I would clear the floor if I was dancing in a disco. I'm not good at dancing on my own and I'm not very good at freestyle. I would end up doing choreography instead.

It's important to be authentic, to put on the best performance possible. I always try to do the best I can for my audience. I never want anything half baked or half cocked, I want it to be amazing.

Everything is an image to me. Whether I'm choreographing or writing a novel, I see it in my mind and put it to music or on the page.

I've written four novels and published an album. I have great stories running through my head and I have a great guy writing them for me.

Nothing gets easier as you get older. It becomes harder to start over, motivationally and physically. The most important thing for me is to never have stopped. Can I do splits? I never could, so it has nothing to do with age.

Email? Send text messages ? Forget. I never answer anyone. So anyone reading this that I haven't responded to, I'm so sorry. Maybe just call me. Although I don't answer, because I'm still in the car driving or doing a show, or in a studio rehearsing.

I love to be recognized. I do not say this in a vain way. I'm forever grateful to people who say they're a fan of the show, or like one of my books. Every time I'm recognized, I say, "Thank you very much." They say, "Can I have a picture?" And I say, "Of course!"

A woman asked me to sign something, so I signed, "Lots of love, Anton Du Beke. " She said, "Who is it?" Write your name!" I knew exactly what she meant, so I wrote, "Much love, Rob Brydon," and she left, happy as Larry.

If I'm not playing or doing a show, I like to be on a golf course. I even started playing golf with my wife. She's really competitive, so she gets grumpy, but I love playing with her. Last year I learned all my panto script on the golf course. I would walk up to people and say, "Hey, kids! My name buttons. They'd say, ' Get out. Hit your shot."

What's my worst habit? You better ask my wife.

Do I appreciate my beauty? Let me put it like this. Heat magazine used to do this Secret Crush poll, and one year I was second to James May. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I was just thrilled to be considered.

What happens when we die? I will go golf with Brucie at the best place.
