Hickey started his Scottish Premiership career with Hearts and quickly rose to prominence aged 16 with a standout performance in the 2019 Scottish Cup final against Celtic. He became a Jambos first-team regular the following season and earned £1.5million at Bologna in the summer of 2020, instantly becoming a Serie A regular.

After making 48 appearances for the Italian club in the space of two years, it quickly became clear that the defender would move on to a bigger challenge. He was thought to be a target for a host of Premier League clubs, with Arsenal being one of the most prevalent clubs. However, it was Brentford who took advantage, agreeing a deal believed to be around £15m to bring him to the Gtech Community Stadium.

His performances in both games against Ukraine were particularly impressive, leaving Arsenal's popular target Mudryk with few opportunities to make an impression in either match.

His contribution last night was again vital as Scotland clinched top spot in their Nations League group with a 0-0 draw at Krakow.
