Arsenal v Liverpool flashpoint between Henderson and Gabriel under review by FA

The Football Association are due to review details of an incident towards the end of Arsenal's 3-2 win over Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday night.

Bukayo Saka scored a late penalty to secure victory for the Gunners, who returned top of the Premier League above Manchester City.

Liverpool had twice come from behind to get level before Arsenal were awarded a free kick 15 minutes from time after Thiago Alcantara's challenge on Gabriel Jesus, which contained minimal contact but was confirmed by VAR.

There was a flashpoint as tempers flared after the decision, with players from both sides getting involved.

Referee Michael Oliver went to speak to rival managers Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp after the incident.

During the flashpoint, Gabriel Magalhães was seen chatting with Jordan Henderson and gesturing towards Oliver.

The Brazilian defender was clearly furious at what the Liverpool captain had said and passed on the exchange to Granit Xhaka.

Klopp said in his post-match TV interviews that he was "not allowed" to divulge any further details while Arteta told a press conference afterwards: "It's is an incident that happened. Whatever happens on this pitch stays on this pitch."

The FA will discuss with Oliver and his team of referees before deciding whether further action should be taken.

"We are aware of an incident during the match between Arsenal and Liverpool. We are in dialogue with the match officials and will review the details of the incident," an FA spokesperson said.

Klopp admitted Liverpool's title hopes were over after Sunday's 3-2 defeat at Arsenal, where the visitors' woes were compounded by injuries to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz.

The result left Liverpool in 10th place, with just two wins from their first eight games, and Klopp claimed his side - who won last season's title race until the last game - to be refused by Manchester City - was no longer in contention. .

"We're not in the hunt for the title. It's naive to sit here and think we're almost there," said the German.

"We have problems at the moment but, of course, (they are) the in-form team, the leader of the table, but (we had) huge problems today.

"I think even in a very bad situation for us, with early changes and things like that, there are real problems and that's the truth for us."

However, the Liverpool boss believes the system used is not to blame for their recent mixed fortunes in the top flight.

"I think the goals we conceded have nothing to do with the system," Klopp said.

“Do I have deeper concerns? Yes, of course I am not happy, how can I (be)?

"We're going through a tough time and we want to get through it together. That's what we're working on."

Klopp has already faced a number of injury problems this season, but things got worse at the Emirates, with Diaz and Alexander-Arnold leaving the pitch before the start of the second half.

"Going into half-time, we now have additional problems. Luis Diaz, we had to change before (half-time) obviously; it's something with the knee, not good, really not good.

"He's going to have a scan and we'll know more, I don't know to what extent," he said.

"But on top of that Trent, it's really bad also with the ankle, twisted ankle. Not good. Trent, in seven years, never left when he could have continued playing, he was in too much pain, (there was) slight swelling immediately so he's going to have a CT scan."
