The Dutchman, signed from Ajax in a £38.5m summer transfer, limped off early in the second half of Saturday's win over Nottingham Forest in the opener of the Gunners in the Premier League.

Arsenal confirmed on Monday night that further assessments will be required to determine a time frame for Timber's return to action.

"Following his substitution in our game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Jurrien Timber received in-depth assessments and scans which confirmed that he suffered a right knee injury," a club statement read.

"Jurrien will undergo a more detailed assessment and examination with a consultant in the coming days to assess the full extent of the injury, to determine next steps. A further update will be provided in due course.
