Axman unleashes terror on Lidl in horrific supermarket attack as shoppers flee

Shoppers were forced to flee for their lives in gruesome scenes as an axe-wielding man ran amok at a Lidl supermarket in France.

Three people were injured in the terrifying attack as the ax man ended the rampage by turning the weapon on himself at the shop in the town of Jeumont, northern Belgium , on the Belgian border.

Witnesses reported seeing blood covering the floor of the supermarket and many of them needed psychological help following the traumatic event.

Two victims were seriously injured while a third person suffered minor injuries. The third victim was reportedly transported to Maubeuge hospital.

The suspect, a man in his 40s, was also seriously injured after turning the ax on himself, local newspaper La Voix du Nord reported.

The attack happened around 7:00 p.m. local time on Monday, about an hour before the store was scheduled to close.

The man reportedly entered the supermarket with a bag that also contained knives and began attacking customers near the checkout area, chasing terrified people through the store where they were quietly shopping moments before .

A customer lost a finger after trying to stop the attacker by using a shopping cart to block his way.

First responders reported large amounts of blood on the floor of the supermarket, causing one of the officers who arrived at the scene to fall.
