Barack Obama Wins Emmy for Narrative in Netflix Documentary

Former President Barack Obama won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Storyteller on Saturday for his d Netflix ries documentary, Our Great National Parks.

The Obamas' production company, Higher Ground, is behind the five-part parks series around the world.

The Emmy joins Mr. Obama's two Grammy Awards, putting him halfway to becoming an Egot - someone one with an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony.

He becomes only the second US president in history to win an Emmy.

The Netflix series showcases the natural beauty of five continents and features locations such as Chilean Patagonia and Indonesia.

Other contenders in the best narrator category included David Attenborough, Lupita Nyong'o and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

After leaving office in 2017, the former president and his wife Michelle created Higher Ground, securing a deal with Netflix that was worth tens of millions of dollars.

Mr. Obama won Grammy Awards for audio versions of his memoir "The Audacity of Hope" and "Dreams from My Father."

The only other president to have winning an Emmy was Dwight Eisenhower, who won an honorary award in 1956 for becoming the first president to lead a televised press conference.

Only 17 people have achieved Egot status to date, including Mel Brooks, Whoopie Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn and Jenifer Hudson.
