Three boys aged 8, 10 and 11 all sadly lost their lives after being pulled from an icy lake in Solihull.

A fourth boy, aged six, remains in hospital in critical condition.

News presenter Joanna Gosling, 51, broke the tragic news on BBC News on Monday.

"I have very sad news to report that three boys - aged 10, 11 and 8 - have died after being pulled from an icy lake in Solihull," she said. declared. "I'm so sorry..."

Trying to pull herself together, the reporter concluded, "Very sadly, we have heard that three of these boys are dead" before saying the news was "very shocking" and "very sad".

In an update on Monday morning, West Midlands Police said: 'Three boys have tragically died after falling into the lake at Babbs Mill Park in Solihull yesterday afternoon.

"The boys, aged 11, 10 and 8, were rushed to hospital after being pulled from the water. Unfortunately, they could not be revived and our thoughts are with to their family and friends during this deeply devastating time. We will have specialist officers who are offering them all possible support. A fourth boy, aged six, remains in hospital in critical condition.
