'Beef': Watch Ali Wong knock down Steven Yeun in an explanation-laden road rage scene (EXCLUSIVE)

"Who do you think you are, eh? »

In an exclusive clip from Netflix and A24's upcoming TV show "Beef", the character Steven Yeun's Danny unleashes a slew of swear words at Ali Wong's Amy during a dramatic road rage sequence featuring elaborate car maneuvers and front yard demolition.

The footage opens with a close-up of Danny struggling to buckle his seatbelt at the exterior of Forsters, a fictional DIY store. His already apparent exasperation intensifies when he begins to back his red van out of its parking space and is abruptly stopped by an oncoming white Mercedes-Benz, which honks a long horn at him.

"What? What?" Danny shouts. "What's your problem? What?"

The car drives past him but stops within sight, and the driver - which Danny doesn't can not see - knocks him down. The gesture is rude enough to trigger Danny's already lit fuse, and with a silent "Fuck this" he drives out of his parking spot with a vengeance. The chase is on.

"Danny is a character very stuck in his ways", creator and showrunner Lee Sung Jin tells Variety. "He's stuck in the past. He has a chip on his shoulder. The way he perceives reality is very blurred by his own insecurities and by his own projections."

The two cars weave through traffic, dodging incoming vehicles and running red lights. Eventually, the white Mercedes drives Danny's van down a residential street. A drink flies out the window of the Benz, landing on its windshield.

"Are you kidding me? he shouts. "Show your fucking face!"

The chase comes to a head when the Mercedes is stuck at a four-way stop sign with two other cars try to cross the intersection. In a dramatic attempt to ward off his nemesis, Danny drives through a carefully cultivated suburban front yard, the wheels of his truck trampling plants in the process, and manages to stall the Mercedes as it attempts to turn right. Amy - whose face has still not been revealed - backs into the front yard and runs onto another plant, then begins driving in the opposite direction. It looks like the Mercedes is pulling out of the situation until the car stops and accelerates backwards, directly aiming at Danny who is sitting helplessly in the driver's seat.

Danny throws his hands up and prepares for impact, but the Mercedes stops just before he she hits his truck. With as much confidence as a vehicle can muster, the Mercedes pulls away, but not before Danny has memorized his license plate.

It's only the last scene shot that reveals Ali Wong's Amy was driving the Mercedes.

Lee — speaking with Variety, ironically while driving — says the The scene was loosely based on his own real-life road rage situation. “I projected a lot of things onto this other person. That's part of why in the scene we didn't want to introduce Amy right away, wanting to play with this idea, this nameless, faceless blank slate that Danny's character can project a lot of things on, that will come in in game later in the episode."

He notes that Amy's white Mercedes in the scene represents Danny's "white whale", referring to the symbol of intense obsession reminiscent of Herman Melville's "Moby Dick" of 1851. The obsession sparked by this incident propels Danny's character forward, fueling the chain of improbable events that bring him closer to Amy and him. It gradually becomes apparent that the anger the two share masks even deeper, more existential desires.

Even though "Beef" is a comedy, Lee says he wants audiences to know that it's is “more than just a road rage show.”...
