Bignot banned for a homophobic comment on the sideline

July 8 - Former Birmingham Women's manager Marcus Bignot has been handed a seven-game sideline ban for homophobic comments. He was also ordered to take a face-to-face training course.

Bignot made homophobic comments at Tottenham head coach Rehanne Skinner during a Women's Super League match in February 2022. He was charged by the FA with misconduct but denied any wrongdoing .

On Thursday, the FA confirmed that an independent regulatory commission had concluded the charge was proven following a two-day hearing in May. “Maybe if you had a little bit of p**** in you and in your life, then maybe you would be better off for that and at your job,” Bignot said on the sideline, according to the commission, which ruled that it was "not credible" that Bignot was unaware of Skinner's sexuality.

The commission reasoned its decision by stating: "The regulatory commission is not concerned with the question of whether Mr. Bignot is homophobic, and draws no conclusion from it."

"It was discovered that he had made a manifestly homophobic and totally unacceptable comment. It is particularly important that homophobic comments, such as those made by Mr. Bignot, be severely punished."
