'Black Panther 2' Trailer: Shuri, Nakia and More Mourn the Loss of T'Challa

The hype for Black Panther 2 just kicked into high gear. Marvel released the trailer for the highly anticipated 2018 Oscar-nominated Black Panther sequel on July 23 during Marvel's Comic-Con panel. The film, officially titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, features the returns of Lupita Nyong'o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, and Letitia Wright as Shuri, who all face a new world in the aftermath of The Death of T'Challa.

Most of the trailer has no dialogue, but the images are full of emotion. Shuri can be seen crying. Ramonda remains resolute in the face of pain. “I am the queen of the most powerful nation in the world and my whole family is gone! Didn't I give it my all? Ramonda asks in the trailer. The final moments of the trailer feature a new character taking on the mantle of Black Panther. Although it is probably Shuri, her face is not shown.

Winston Duke and Angela Bassett, who play M'Baku and Ramonda respectively, also return to fiercely protect Wakanda. Sadly, there's been no T'Challa, aka the original Black Panther, since star Chadwick Boseman tragically died of colon cancer in 2020 at the age of 43.

Black Panther 2has begun filming in June 2021 under the direction of director Ryan Coogler and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. It was previously confirmed that T'Challa would not be recast in the wake of Chadwick's death. Lupita told Yahoo in April 2021 that Coogler had "remade" the film's sequel to honor the late actor.

"His idea, the way he reshaped the second movie is so respectful of the loss we all suffered as a cast and as a world," Lupita explained. . "So it's spiritually and emotionally okay to do that. And I hope what I'm looking forward to is getting back together and honoring what he started with us and holding his light through that. Because he left us a lot of light in which we will still bathe. I know that for sure.
