Boris Johnson set up a private company in his name; the disgraced former prime minister is allowed to claim up to £115,000 a year in public funding.

Mr. Johnson, who announced his resignation in July after a series of scandals, will not use the new company for business purposes, a source close to him said.

Boris Johnson Ltd office was listed in Companies House yesterday as rumors of a potential return refuse to go away.

Documents show the former Tory leader is listed under his full name of Alexander Boris De Pfeffel Johnson.

The backbencher is eligible to claim up to £115,000 a year to run his office as part of a scheme to support former prime ministers who remain active in public life.< /p>

The limited liability company will only operate as a private office to support him as former prime minister, a source told the PA news agency.

Public funding is intended to cover office and secretarial costs arising from their particular position - and does not apply to their private or parliamentary duties.

It is unclear how much of the public service allowance Mr Johnson will claim, with expenses being reimbursed after presentation of proof of expenses.

The manager is Shelley Williams-Walker, a longtime ally who was head of operations at No 10 under Mr Johnson.

A spokesman for Mr Johnson said: 'The Boris Johnson Ltd office will support Boris Johnson's private office in line with similar structures established by former Prime Ministers.
