Boris Johnson has accepted nearly £24,000 in funding for his wedding party from a major Tory donor.

Lord Anthony and Lady Carole Bamford raised money for portaloos, flowers, a South African barbecue and an ice cream van for the lavish party in July.

Official statements also reveal that they paid for the marquee rental, catering and wait staff.

JCB digger magnate Lord Bamford threw the party for the then Prime Minister and his wife Carrie - after he was forced to cancel plans to hold it at Checkers in the face of a huge public backlash.

The Johnsons were joined by family and friends at the 18th century Daylesford House in the Cotswolds to celebrate after the coronavirus pandemic forced them to cut back on their wedding day.

The £23,853 donation detailed in the latest register of MPs' financial interests showed the party included a braai, a type of South African barbecue.

Mr. Johnson has repeatedly benefited from donations from Lord Bamford, the Tory billionaire peer backing the MP's 2019 bid to become Tory leader.

The ex-Prime Minister was visiting JCB factories under the watchful eye of the media, including a factory in India and a factory in Staffordshire where he used a shovel to knock down a wall in a stunt to demonstrate he could" get Brexit done".

Lord Bamford's wife, Lady Carole Bamford, established Daylesford's premium organic farm, with a chain of shops selling her produce across London.
