'Boris Johnson's behavior is an insult to anyone who followed the Covid rules'

His feeble attempt to portray himself as the victim of a miscarriage of justice and his Trump-esque rant at committee only add to the agony

The Committee of Privileges has done a great service to the country. There is no doubt that Boris Johnson is unfit for office.

The cross-party group of MPs concluded that the former prime minister repeatedly lied to parliament about Partygate, misled the committee and then orchestrated a campaign of abuse and intimidation against those who sought to hold him accountable.

The offenses committed by Mr Johnson could not be more serious. His behavior is an insult to anyone who followed the rules.

Mr. Johnson's feeble attempt to portray himself as the victim of a miscarriage of justice and his Trump-esque rant at committee only add to the agony.

It must be remembered that none of this would have come to light without the diligent and dogged reporting of the Mirror.

Like the committee, we faced obfuscation and misinformation as we sought to uncover the truth.

Anyone who cares about trust in politics, protecting democracy and upholding standards in public life should ensure that Mr Johnson never again obscures the door to Westminster.

On Monday, Rishi Sunak must show leadership by voting in favor of the sanctions recommended by the Privileges Committee.

To do otherwise would be a breach of his promise, once elected, to restore the integrity and accountability of public life.

If he cares about standards and honesty, the Prime Minister would also banish Mr Johnson to the political wilderness and prevent him from standing again as a Tory MP.

It's the least he could do after championing Mr Johnson for the top job and then clearing his tarnished resignation honors list.

Johnson has shamed the Commons, dishonored his office and corrupted politics. This should be the last chapter of his inglorious career.

Glorious Glenda

Whether in the West End, on Broadway or in Westminster, Glenda Jackson never delivered a bad performance.

His game was legendary, his politics were passionate and his career was unparalleled.
