A six-year-old boy had his genitals cut off and left to die in a ditch during a seizure.

The terribly injured boy lay covered in blood in scrubland when local residents chasing two criminals heard the boy screaming for help in South Africa.

While looking for the source of the injury, local residents believed the boy had been stabbed, but were horrified to discover that the schoolboy had been castrated.

His condition was near death from loss of blood when he was found in a vacant lot near a gold mine in the informal settlement of Blue Skye.

Local residents were outraged upon hearing news of the attack of sick people which spread through the town of Boksburg in Gauteng Province and struck terror among relatives.

A resident who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals said: 'Who would do such a thing to such a small boy? He really is the cruelest of cruelties.

"Spraying the little boy with pepper spray is bad enough, but cutting off his genitals is just barbaric and that child will have mental problems for the rest of his life.

"I know the boy and he is often in search of a little food or a little change and he manages and is always smiling and always polite.

"He was found in an overgrown field with his genitals missing and unable to see properly due to the pepper spray which is terribly painful in itself."
