A 'bright and bubbly' nine-year-old boy has died after being bitten by a mosquito while on a family vacation.

Glenn Pulgadas, from the small town of Harvey in Western Australia, was in the Philippines when he contracted dengue fever and tragically died on August 25.

The École Sainte-Anne student was with his parents Glenn and Ryza visiting his extended family when he was bitten by the mosquito and began to feel ill on August 12, causing him to drove to the hospital.

After showing symptoms like headache, fever, vomiting and nosebleeds, he went into dengue shock syndrome and suffered from organ failure as he died. he was in intensive care.

This was a terrible shock to the small local community of Harvey.

“Glenn was a bright, bubbly young boy who was so full of life and always had a smile on his face,” family friend Danielle Zarzycki said, reported

While father Jess Navarra said the boy was 'very lively, very outgoing, always smiling and laughing', adding that 'being a small town we felt the impact straight away'.< /p>

Another family friend reportedly said, "We are all very sad. Glenn is no friend to us, we treat him like our own son."

A page has been created to help the family pay the funeral costs.

It read: "Glenn was a beautiful third grader at St. Anne's School here in Harvey. He and his family traveled to the Philippines to spend time with his extended family.

"Unfortunately, Glenn fell ill and sadly passed away earlier this week.

"As a community, we would like to support his mom and dad with medical and funeral costs.

"Glenn was a bright young boy, bubbly, full of life and always smiling.

"Anything you could give would be greatly appreciated and will be of great help to his family at this unhappy time."

Dengue is transmitted through mosquito bites, with three out of four people not even getting sick from the disease.

Infections have risen dramatically, however, having more than doubled in the past decade to more than five million cases, according to the World Health Organization.
