Canada Celebrates the Oscars: Putin, Sarah Polley Rocks Dr. Martens and Talking Jake Gyllenhaal's Upcoming Projects

Zaib Shaikh, Consul General of Canada in Los Angeles, hosted the country's annual Canada at the evening Oscars on Thursday at his official residence in Hancock Park.

The event was the first stop of the evening for many Oscar-nominated Canadians, including Sarah de "Women Talking" Polley, Sheila McCarthy and Kate Hallet. Polley was heading to the Macro party. Other attendees were heading to the Wilde Oscars or the pre-Oscars celebration of South Asian excellence.

Also present, Domee Shi of "Turning Red", which won the Oscar for best feature film animation, Brendan Fraser and "The Whale" prosthetic makeup artist Adrien Morot.

The evening celebrated Canadian Oscar winners and nominees, past and present.

Last year's "Dune" nominee makeup artist Donald Mowat spoke with< em>Variety on his upcoming work with frequent collaborator Jake Gyllenhaal. In the television series “Presumed Innocent,” Mowat said, “He becomes a heartbroken lawyer with a chiseled body and is married to Ruth Negga. It's the easiest job I've done."
